Institute for High-Performance Computing and Information Systems (IHPCIS) was founded in 2001 at the basis of the Institute for High-Performance Computing and Data Bases of the Ministry of Science and Technical Policy of the Russian Federation, which was a Russian leader in modern information technology innovation based on high-performance computer technique. The Institute activities are aimed to the development of new technologies for applying supercomputers in different spheres of science and engineering; providing the information and computing support of municipal enterprises, research and educational organizations.
The IHPCIS is the only institute in Russia who uses the systems of all main supercomputer architectures and realize full-scale remote operation trough the Internet by the RunNet.
The institute is equipped with powerful high performance open access resource, which includes the HP CONVEX systems, the Sun Enterprise series machines, massive-parallel computers by Parsytec, SGI Octane specialized graphic stations, independently developed Linux-cluster with the commuting Myrinet-based device. All the machines are combined into the supercomputer cluster with the summarized capability of 46,76 GigaOper/s. We also have three classes of graphic terminals.
1. Development and procession of the supercomputer technologies within the information supply.
2. Introduction of the supercomputer technologies into the scientific research, public education and industry.
3. The information supply of the scientific research field and educational field in the national network of computer communications for Russian science and education with the aim of support of the researches, developments and innovations.
4. Development of the technologies for the high speed network of telecommunications to combine the supercomputer resources and transmit huge data files.
5. Development of parallel algorithms for supercomputers of different architectures.
6. Development of distributed high performance computing technologies to use them for the solutions of the basic and applied tasks.
7. Development and procession of visualization technologies using supercomputers for processing of huge data file and interpretations of obtained results.
8. Development and assemblage of supercomputers from the base of elements of common purpose.
9. Creation of the ground for the programs for the effective management of different structures of national economy.
10. Integration of specialists▓ efforts in adjacent scientific fields to obtain new quality of results, due to use of information technologies.
