Generating Hard Copy
Once you get a good solution from ANSYS, chances are that you are going to want to show it to someone. Sending a copy of the graphics window to a file or a printer is quite easy.
Then, go to the PlotCtrls menu and select "Hard Copy".
Full Screen vs. Graphics Window
You'll probably rarely want a picture of the entire screen. For just the contents of the graphics window, select Graphics Window. Gray Scale vs. Color If you know you're going to be printing on a black and white printer, DO NOT choose the Color option. Sending a color file to a black and white printer makes the printer convert it to a gray scale image. This process requires a lot of time and will hang up the printer. Reverse Video There's no sense in wasting ink by printing the black background of the graphics window. Having this option selected makes the background white and the white stuff black. It does not change the other colors. SELECT THIS OPTION. Landscape vs. Portrait The graphics window is usually landscape-like by default. Unless you've resized the graphics window and are doing something different, select Landscape. Sending to a Printer vs. Printing to a File The output can be sent directly to the printer, or can be saved to a file which you can send to the printer at your leisure. I almost always save output to a file, even if I'm going to print it out right away anyway. If something happens to the printer or something you'll still have the file and can resend it. You can go ahead and change the file name from file.ps to whatever you want, but since it's going to be in Postscript format, you might as well keep the .ps extension. The file will be saved to the directory from which you are running ANSYS. If you choose to just send your output to the printer, be sure to specify a printer after the -P. me10a is only one of the many printers on the ME graduate computer system. ME108 has its own printers, check the info available their for suitable printer names. Click here for more info on printing on the ME graduate computer system.
